A Student Reference

January 19, 1994

To Whom It May Concern,

Please allow me this opportunity to commend a most gifted, motivating teacher. This greatly deserved recognition is focused upon El Centro College Diagnostic Ultrasound Program Director Instructor Jan Bryant. I first met Ms. Bryant in February 1993 and am currently one of her students.

I conducted extensive research within the medical community and professional organizations in considering where to receive Ultrasound education. Physicians, Directors, Society Members and practicing Sonographers highly recommended that I apply for studies with Jan Bryant. I found that many of the talented and well regarded Sonographers are her former students.

Jan Bryant has a unique ability to create an encompassing atmosphere in which to develop. Classes begin with students reading an inspirational though and a brief discussion of this application to our lives. Subject material is presented in interwoven, multiple layers. We receive information via print, lecture, videotape, models and discussion. Learning is by assimilation through all of the physical senses. This acquisition is but the first stage. Students are directed through exercises which cause us to independently deduce, abstract and reach critical inferences. We receive not only the tools but the necessary skills to make effective use of them. We “learn to learn”. Ms. Bryant make the classroom experience a marvelous journey through what is for us uncharted territory.

As a class officer, I meet routinely with Ms. Bryant. She is extremely receptive to student requests and sensitive to student needs. When our class experienced difficulties arising from our own diversities, she sought out and provided insight into classroom dynamics through a trained counselor. I know that she is always available to us because I have personally found her accessible evenings and weekends. Her total commitment is quite remarkable.

As future Sonographers, we view Ms. Bryant as the kind of professional we strive to be. She has our respect and that of the medical community. Her service to local and national service organizations seems tireless.

If it seems that I cannot say enough remarkable things about our instructor and mentor it is simply because I am unable to do so. Jan Bryant is a superb educator, motivator, leader and model. Henry Adams, a Nineteenth century American Historian wrote “A teacher affects eternity, it is not possible to tell where their influence stops”. As an older non-traditional college student, I recall an era when “Teacher” was a title not only of a profession, but one of the highest honor and deepest respect. Jan Bryant is a Teacher. We honor her and sincerely hope that you will also

Respectfully
